It’s Pumpkin Season!
The pumpkin spice season is upon us! Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin roll….okay. I need to stop drooling. These treats are amazing and are sure to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth, but, aside from the sugar content, do you realize how amazing pumpkin is for your health?! Yes, pumpkin. See below for some pretty cool benefits of pumpkin and maybe rethink entering the jack o’lantern into the ‘punkin’ chunkin’ contest:
1: Weight loss. Yep, weight loss. Pumpkin is fiber and fiber helps to stave off hunger. Along with suppressing hunger, this large orange fruit is incredibly hydrating and is low calorie. One cup of canned pumpkin contains seven grams of fiber, which is more than two slices of whole grain bread. Yes, please!
2: Sharp vision: Look out carrots, pumpkin coming through! The beta-carotene in pumpkin, which is converted into vitamin A, is immensely helpful for healthy eyes. It aids the retinas in absorbing and processing light. A single cup of pumpkin (not pumpkin pie, bummer I know) contains over 200% of the recommended daily dose of vitamin A! Talk about an eye-catching number [(see what I did there?! I did it again too ;)]
3: Better Immunity: Who doesn’t want a stronger immune system?! Consuming pumpkin can really help your body fight off infections, viruses, and infectious diseases. Due to the high concentration of vitamin A in the pumpkin, the body uses it as a fuel and partner in crime to fight off those nasty bugs we sometimes get hit with.
4: Younger Looking Skin: The beta-carotene (again) is not only beneficial to your eyesight and immune system but to your skin too! Pumpkin can aid in providing a more youthful and radiant complexion.
5: Lower Cancer Risk: Yes, you read that correctly. Pumpkin can assist in lowering the risk of certain cancers like prostate and lung cancer. Diets rich in beta-carotene (yep, it’s amazing) are proven to help reduce the risk of cancer.
Whew! That’s a lot of good stuff! I hope after reading this, you’ll consider adding pumpkin into your life. If nothing else, stop in and try the pro yam and pumpkin enzyme peel at MACs Lash & Skin and see how much it improves your complexion. You can thank us later.
Thanks for reading and happy pumpkin season!
