Bye Bye Bugs!

Hey All! Happy Summer! Finally. If you’re anything like me and summer is your favorite season, being outside to soak up the warmth and sunshine is the ultimate feel good. However, with the beautiful sunshine and warmth comes pesky bugs that love the scent of the tanning lotions and sunscreens we bathe in. So spray on a bug repellent and go, right? Agreed. But, personally, I prefer to use products that I can pronounce the ingredients and know that they’re safe to put on my skin. I’ve spent some time researching homemade bug sprays that not only smell good but ones that actually work. Below are a few recipes for natural, safe and effective natural bug sprays that really do work at repelling those pesky little fellers.
Recipe One:
30 drops geranium essential oil
30 drops citronella essential oil
20 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
20 drops lavender essential oil
1 TBSP vodka or rubbing alcohol
1½ cup witch hazel
½ cup water or vinegar
Mix all carrier liquids (vodka, rubbing alcohol and witch hazel) in a spray bottle (preferably glass) and add essential oils. Shake well and spray.
Recipe Two:
55 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
15 drops of cedarwood essential oil
15 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops rosemary essential oil
1 TBSP vodka or rubbing alcohol
1½ cup witch hazel
½ cup water or vinegar
Mix all carrier liquids (vodka, rubbing alcohol and witch hazel) in a spray bottle (preferably glass) and add essential oils. Shake well and spray. Enjoy your bug free day!
**If using this spray on children, please consult your physician before using. It is always better to be safe!**
Here’s to welcoming summer and being bug bite free!
Cheers,
Casey
