Herbs That Help Annihilate Allergies

FINALLY!  The weather is warming up, the sun stays with us longer each day, and you’re feeling excited for these upcoming spring and summer days!  There’s a downside to most things though, and if you’re anything like me, you already can’t stop sneezing, scratching and sniffing. We wanted to share some herbs that can be used in so many different ways to help treat your obnoxious, unbearable spring allergies!

  • Garlic

Yep, you read it right!  Garlic has been used in ways other than a delicious sauce to add to your favorite meals for AGES now!  Garlic enhances the immune system and helps treat inflammation. It also contains quercetin which is a natural antihistamine, well-known for treating allergies!

  1. Rosemary

Another popular ingredient to your favorite dishes, rosemary has been found to ease the struggles of allergy-ridden people and asthmatics!  The herb contains rosmarinic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Rosemary can be used so many different ways, but consider using it in teas!

  1.   Goldenrod

Goldenrod ironically enough tends to grow in the same places as ragweed, which is often times the main cause of many people’s allergies.  However, many studies have found anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and antioxidant properties in this wonderful herb! It can also be considered a fluid-moving herb, in that it helps thin and remove mucus in congestion and sinuses.  This herb makes a fabulous ingredient in teas!

  1.  Lavender

At just the mention of this wonderful herb and flower you probably can already smell the sweet, relaxing scent.  Although it has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, it is not typically known for treating allergies. However, it is absolutely known for aiding with sleep and easing stress and anxiety.  Personally, I have an eye pillow filled with a few herbs, the main one being lavender. I lay this over my eyes before or during sleep and always wake up with much less puffy and irritated eyes, not to mention the fact that despite the sniffling, it will help you sleep much better!

  1. Butterbur

This very underrated herb does wonders for allergies and asthma both!  When using the leaf or any other way, always look for PA free labels! This herb works to treat migraines and headaches, as well as ease any nose pain you may struggle with from those allergies!
